The clear container makes it easy to know when it is time to add more seed. And the design makes it very easy to refill. Plus with its cylinderal shape you do not have to worry about the birds getting sick from fecal matter.

Birdscapes 329 Triple Tube Feeder, 11 lb seed capacity Review

(More customer reviews)I bought this feeder from a local bird store. While attractive enough, I did not do my research before purchasing this feeder.
To fill the feeder you must unscrew the plastic dome lid and then screw the lid back on. The threading stripped within the first couple months causing the brown seed filler tray to come off with the dome lid. This left the 3 single tubes exposed which had to each be filled separately and very carefully. An impossible task without spilling bird seed all over the ground. Next the plastic dome lid cracked and I wasn't able to hang the feeder anymore, so I decided to call Perky Pet's customer service. I was absolutely shocked at their lack of helpfulness, professionalism or concern. They flatly stated that their warranty was only good for 30 days, something I obviously wasn't aware of. They promised to send a catalog with replacement parts and unfortunately, I'm still waiting for the catalog. I paid $65.00 for my feeder and expected it to last many many years, not just a few months.
Recently, I stopped by the bird store where I had purchased the feeder and told them my story, hoping they could help. Surprisingly they recited their own negative encounters with Perky Pet's lack of customer service in their business dealings. I suggested that they should educate their consumers before selling them a Perky Pet product, something I wish they had warned me about.
I have now done my research and am very pleased with Droll Yankee products, their lifetime warranty and customer service.

Droll Yankee SDC Green Wild Bird Feeder with Domed Cage Review

(More customer reviews)I have two of this model and one of the old model with the plastic bottom that catches the seed. All three are the very best. They are definitely squirrel proof (but not raccoon proof!). We live in a natural setting so the bird seed dropping to the ground is not a problem. I've had the old model for at least 7 years and this SDC model for at least three. They not only last, but are easy to fill and clean.

Droll Yankees W1 Winner Window Feeder Review

(More customer reviews)This is the best window feeder available. There is no need to try any other types. I have done that already for you! (Please let my time and frustration in trying other feeders pay off for you!)
This one is easy to fill, easy to clean, easy to hang. The feeder itself is separate from the suction cups, so you can slide the feeder off, dump out the old seed shells, and then slide it back on to refill it. (Or you can just pour in a new tray full of seeds on top of the old shells.) This is an easy task for my 7-year-old. The tray type seed holder is also good for mealworms or any other type of food you would like to put out.
You can adjust the height to keep larger birds out or to let them in. Many other feeders are not large enough for jays and cardinals. Some feeders aren't even big enough for chickadees! We have seen titmice, chickadees, cardinals, cedar waxwings, sparrows, and occasionally a blue jay at this feeder. They come all day long and have gotten used to us being inside; we can observe the birds quite closely. Since it is on the window, the feeder is safe from squirrels and cats.
The seeds stay dry. The suction is strong enough for high winds. The plastic is thick, stays clear, and is strong enough to handle being dropped by above-mentioned 7-year-old.
This is overall a high quality item that is well designed. There is no need to continue shopping and guessing which will be best. This is it.
UPDATE: Since buying this for my own family, I have since bought 3 more as gifts.

(More customer reviews)I was so excited when this bird feeder arrived. It really adds elegance to my backyard. It's the prettiest feeder I've ever seen and it's quality made at such a reasonable price. My big issue with it is that it's not squirrel proof. I didn't expect the squirrels around my area to be so greedy. They've been able to shimmy up the hanging pole, cling onto the sides of the feeder by wrapping their body around it, and steal all the seeds from the birds. I'm not sure what to do? I wish the design had been squirrel proof. The squirrels have even bit through some of the wood to get at the food. I'm disappointed for now :( and just took it down this morning until I have a better plan. I guess I have to buy an extra component to deter the squirrels. I would have given it 5 stars otherwise.

Aspects 367 Hummzinger Ultra Hummingbird Feeder, 12-Ounce Review

(More customer reviews)This is a great feeder no doubt. It is the easiest to clean and refill that I've seen. And the bright red makes the hummers go crazy. Mine have become more territorial, and they feed more often now.
Initially I had some concerns that the feeder would need to be almost completely full in order for the hummers to be able to extract any nectar (the feeder is rather deep). Turns out the little guys have pretty long tongues, so they can reach far into the feeder, even when it is close to being empty.
Can't beat the lifetime guarantee.
My only gripe is that small ants can still get inside even with the nectar guard tips in place. In my case, the ants are pretty bad, even more so than with my last feeder which had basically no protection at all.

Droll Yankees OWF Observer Window Bird Feeder Review

(More customer reviews)The chickadees discovered the feeder 10 minutes after it was put up. Even a northern red-shafted flicker gave it a try and looked pretty silly in the bargain (the feeder is perfect for finch sized birds).
Safe from squirrels and directly in view (if you sit still for a few minutes, the birds will use it right in front of your face), this is the best feeder I've ever had.
NB: if you put up this type of feeder, you should also (should anyway) put up bird silhouettes in the windows. This will prevent birds from flying into your windows and injuring or even killing themselves.

Perky Pet 309 Seed Barn Feeder, 5 lb capacity Review

(More customer reviews)I used this feeder through the winter of 2009-2010. Stellar's Jays, Nuthatches, Juncos and Flickers all seem to be able to feed at it with no problems (though the Juncos prefer feeding on the fallen seeds under it). The feeder has withstood heavy rain, snowfall, severe freezes, and winds up to 65 mph without any issues. The suspension cable is very strong, though I'd recommend if you hang it instead of pole mounting, that you use 2 points of suspension, otherwise there is a tendency for the feeder to tip a little towards one of the ends. The clear plastic sides (all 4) do make it easy to see when it's running low on food at a long distance, and the lift-up cap is adequate for filling in place. It's also easy to clean. I have Abert's Squirrels in the area, and after lots of attempts to get to the food, they finally settled on jumping on it from above to knock a few seeds to the ground. It's not squirrel-proof, but it's not squirrel friendly either, which is a good thing when you are trying to feed the birds.
So why 4 stars instead of 5 (besides the slight tipping problem)? I had to go away for a while and when I came back, the birds had chewed off one of the perches, damaged the other, and tore the edges off the roof looking for seed. While this problem is not unique to this feeder, I think the perches are a bit flimsy and could be made of stronger plastic. That said, it's a good value for the money, and if you don't want to pay more for a wooden feeder like Perky Pet 50153 The Lodge Cedar Feeder, 8 lb capacity or a metal feeder like Heritage Farms Seeds n More Metal Hopper Bird Feeder, I'd go for this one - good for millet, sunflower seeds, and most mixes. Just be sure not to run out of seed so the birds don't have a reason to chew it up!

At that time it was about 8 years old and the only thing that was "wrong" was that the tube had discolored a bit from the sun. Other than that, it was completely fine. That was two or three years ago and today is still going strong. Like another reviewer stated, it does hold a huge amount of seed, so refills are done less often. This Droll Yankee feeder is well worth it's price.

The flower-shaped feeders each have a small amount of red around their center. It is much more attractive than the red plastic feeders. However, it is definitely overpriced here at $25+. The local hardware stores and WalMart all sell this feeder for under $13 each.

Garden Song 102-4 Select-A-Bird Tube Feeder Review

(More customer reviews)I have nothing bad to say about this product. I have been using it for several weeks now and it is definitely my favorite. The birds love it, too! ;)
The perches are adjustable from underneath the base. Supposedly this allows you to choose which size birds you would like to accomodate. I open it all the way, and the regulars (finches, sparrows, titmice, chickadees, cardinals, woodpeckers) have no problem using it. Larger birds may be able to use it, with some difficulty. I have seen the blue jay use it, and it was quite comical. He perched, squatted and maneuvered his body sideways to get the seed. The mechanism underneath sometimes gets stuck, but it always responds with some tooling around.
-NO WASTE!!! The lowest perches are on the very bottom of the feeder, which means the birds themselves are cleaning it out. There is none of that moldy old seed left in the bottom. You could easily get away with cleaning this once every few weeks.
-Extremely reasonable price.
-Pleasant green color, sturdy plastic, easy to clean.
-Select A Seed feature allows for nijer.
Filling it is easy but I "close" the ports first (move to nijer, with the tiny opening), fill it with hulled sunflower and safflower, then "open" the ports once again. There is some spillage, of maybe 15 seeds, which I save for the next filling. If you don't close the ports first, seed easily spills out while filling.
There are no cons for this product. But I will say that it is definitely NOT squirrel-proof, so if you have a problem with the voracious squirrels (and most people do), this is not a good choice for you.

(More customer reviews)It is strange that the feeder instructions urges one to use Cardinal food--sunflower seeds--when I don't believe it is large enough for a Cardinal to land on. "My" Cardinals have eaten the spillings from Chickadees but haven't ventured to try to land on such a tiny ledge. It is easy to fill and looks good. Our local squirrel has leaped upon it but slid off as it is apparently too small for it too. Even the Chickadees can barely keep their balance.; they pluck the seeds and then eat them off the ground.

Duncraft 15401 Champion Squirrel Blocker Platform Feeder Review

(More customer reviews)We have had the less expensive plastic version of this feeder for a few years. It has been a good feeder, but it's finally disintegrated. We bought the all-metal Champion feeder as a replacement. Duncraft has addressed all the design deficiencies of the previous plastic version:
- The mesh at the bottom of the unit is much smaller, so seeds won't fall through as easily. With the previous plastic version, we had to insert a piece of window screen material to keep seeds from falling through the larger holes in the mesh, and that meant one more item to clean.
- The white grid is now a one-piece epoxy-coated metal unit, and is more rigid than the previous two-piece metal and plastic grid. It can be cleaned easily with a bottle brush.
- The roof is metal, which will avoid the problem with the previous version of the roof cracking where the metal vertical supports were inserted, as well as avoid the problem of the plastic mottling and fading.
The bottom line is that this is an improved version of what was already a good feeder. We recommend it.
